Sometimes the most difficult part of painting is figuring out what to paint. In this post, I will share some paintings that I have created, to help give you some painting ideas and inspiration. A helpful tip is also looking up ideas on Pinterest, that’s where I get the majority of my inspiration!
Little Lavender Field
This little lavender field is great for beginner artists. For the background, I added little dots of different shades of purple onto the canvas, slightly wet my brush, and blended everything together. For blending, I moved from top to bottom, and continued to blend until I was happy with how it looked. I next added the grass, by adding different strokes of different shades of green. For the lavenders, they are made of little purple dots of different shades to create a textured look. I then added some little white flowers and a white moon in the corner to tie it all together.
Helpful tip: let the background dry completely before adding anything else!
Simple Aesthetic Plant Painting
This aesthetic plant painting is very beginner-friendly. I first painted the canvas a lighter pink, before adding the 4 blobs of darker shades of pink in each corner. There are so many painting ideas with this “blob” look, and it’s super simple to do! No need to perfect any shapes or symmetry, just put some random shapes down. After the background was dry, I added some simple plant outlines and a few dotted-circles.
Helpful tip: use a water bottle cap or something circular to help create more even circles!
Butterfly Painting
This butterfly painting is so cute and is another great beginner-friendly piece. I chose to use purples, but you can use any color you want. I started by adding different shades of purple, along with a few dots of light and dark pink to my canvas. I blended the colors until I was happy with how it looked. I created an outline of my butterfly and started with the purple on the inside of the wings. I then went in with black and outlined each detail of the wing, and filled the rest of the space in. Lastly, I added the little antenna.
Helpful tip: let the background dry completely, and trace the butterfly with pencil first!
Elephant Silhouette with Sunset
Silhouette painting ideas are some of my favorites. They are much easier than trying to add a bunch of details, when instead you can just do the outline and fill it all in with the same color. For this painting, I started with the background, blending the colors towards the middle, from darkest to lightest. I then added the sun and blended that out a little into the background. Finally I added the grass, elephant silhouette, and some little birds.
Helpful tip: trace your outline in pencil and then fill it in with the black!
Cacti with Sunset
This cacti painting is super cute and was fun to make. For the background, I only added yellow and pink, and blended them together, creating the colors in between. For blending, I started with the yellow, moving from bottom to top. I then added the little grey bottom piece, before adding the cacti. I started each plant in a different solid-shade of green, then added more shades to create some dimension. I then added the spikes and lastly the flowers.
Helpful tip: focus on one plant at a time and let each section dry completely before moving on!
These are just a few painting ideas to get you started, but there are so many great ideas out there!
Sooooo pretty. Nice job.
