6 Outfit Formulas I Use for Everyday Style

Building Consistency

A lot of days, I stare at my closet and feel like I don’t have anything good to wear. I’m starting to realize the problem is not that I don’t have clothes, it’s that I don’t use easy outfit formulas. Repeatable outfit ideas make getting dressed easier, faster, and more consistent. I’ll share some outfit formulas I’m learning to rely on each week.

Basic Tee + Jeans + Clogs

Who doesn’t have a plain t- shirt and jeans? These pieces are easy to throw on and look coordinated for almost any occasion. I think clogs give a casual look to the outfit, especially in fall, but sneakers could also be a good touch. I wear this outfit when I get coffee or go shopping so I can feel confident and put together. Some other ways to tweak this outfit could be adding a tote bag, sunglasses, or a fun hairstyle to make the look more interesting. This simple formula always lands.

Oversized Sweatshirt + Athletic Bottoms + Sneakers

Comfortable and sleek – An oversized top and tight bottoms like biker shorts or leggings create a perfect outfit for running errands, class, or a workout. Coordinating colors or adding crew socks can also give the impression that this outfit took a lot of effort- even if it was your lazy day! Looking cute doesn’t have to be so hard.

Tank + Cardigan + Relaxed Pants

This formula combines loose bottoms and a fitted base, creating layers for you to work with. Cardigans give you a wide range of ways to wear your look. You could leave your cardigan unbuttoned as a jacket, buttoned with the tank peeking out, or buttoned at the top to see all pieces. Relaxed pants like linens or soft cotton can be a good switch-up from jeans when you want to feel more comfy as well. This look is best for days walking downtown or a casual lunch.

Neutrals + Statement Accessory

This outfit style takes minimal effort but still makes you look elevated. A plain outfit with a statement accessory gives your look a focal point and something for people to compliment you on! Accessories are one thing that says a lot about a person, so pieces like a bright bag, funky shoes, or just an interesting pattern show people a glimpse into your personality – what I’m trying to do with my style!

Matching Set + Jewelry

Matching patterns or colors automatically gives people the impression that you are intentional with your look. Having cohesive pieces that fit together makes you powerful! A sleek hairstyle and bold jewelry can level up the outfit too. For me, having matching sets makes my life easier because they are already made for each other- I don’t have to overthink if it’s the same color shade or if they belong together. I can easily throw a set on if I’m rushing in the morning or have a travel day.

Striped Top + Baggy Jeans

These two are classics! A striped long sleeve paired with relaxed denim is one of those combinations that feels balanced — structured on top, effortless on the bottom. It’s just enough to feel cute but not over-the-top for a casual outfit. I’m looking to add more stripes to my closet so I can recreate this formula more often!

Now Make It Yours

All of these formulas have 3 things in common- a simple base, a balancing element, and an easy-to-repeat structure. You can take basics in your closet and pair them with different materials, colors, and accessories to make your look feel natural, not forced. Now, you and I don’t have to think so hard in the mornings! I know I’ll be referencing these formulas as I dive more into my style! What outfit formulas do you use most?
