Experience the energy of South Beach!

If there’s one thing you’ll quickly learn about South Beach, it’s that it’s a paradise for anyone looking to stay active and enjoy the sun. Last January, we had the chance to study at Florida International University in Miami. Coming from a cold Iowa winter, we wasted no time embracing the warmth, vibrant culture, and endless activities South Beach has to offer.

From the ocean and sand courts to bike trails and running paths, South Beach is a playground for those who love to move. Here are a few of our favorite ways to stay active while soaking up Miami’s energy:

1. Swimming in the Ocean

It’s no surprise that swimming in the crystal-clear Atlantic waters was one of our top activities. The saltwater isn’t just refreshing; it’s great for your skin, nails, and hair. Plus, the ocean waves provide a natural full-body workout. Whether you’re swimming or riding the waves, it’s one of the best ways to get fit while enjoying the tropical vibe.


2. Cardio on the Boardwalk and Beach

If you love cardio, the boardwalk is the place to be. A walk or jog along this scenic path offers stunning views of the ocean and palm trees. For a more intense workout, try running on the beach itself—soft sand makes for a tougher, yet rewarding, exercise.


3. Roller Skating on the Boardwalk

Roller skating was a pleasant surprise for us. It’s a popular activity along the boardwalk, and it’s not hard to see why. Skating is a fun and easy way to stay active while cruising along the beach and taking in the views.


4. Biking Around South Beach

Biking is a great way to explore without overexerting yourself. With bike rentals everywhere, it’s easy to hop on a bike and pedal through the iconic Art Deco district and past the palm-lined streets. It’s a relaxed way to get some exercise and see the sights.


5. Sand Volleyball

South Beach has plenty of volleyball courts along the shore. Just bring a ball and some friends, and you’re set! (literally). It’s a fun way to stay active and meet new people while enjoying the sun and sea breeze.
