Why Every Runner Needs an Accountability Partner

Running is such a rewarding activity, although it can be very difficult to stay consistent sometimes. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced runner, having an accountability partner by your side can make all the difference. In my running journey, I have experienced days that I do not have any motivation to wake up early and run, but my running partner is always there encourage me.

Consistency Is Key

An accountability partner ensures that you stick to your running plan or schedule. Knowing that someone is counting on you gives me a sense of urgency and motivation to run because I would not want to disappoint them or let them down. Whether your accountability partner be someone that you are running with on a regular basis or just someone that checks in on you to make sure you compete your workouts, having someone like this makes it slightly harder to skip your workouts.

Pushes You to Be Better

An accountability partner is not only someone that shows up but challenges you to improve. Having someone that is maintaining or increasing the pace, pushing you to run just a little farther, or tackling the hard workouts with you, it makes all the difference in your journey. Running alone may have you not pushing yourself to you full potential or cutting corners, so I encourage every new runner to find someone that will go on this journey with them or have someone tracking your progress.

Makes Running More Fun

Running alone can come with several benefits although can sometimes get monotonous, therefore having a running partner can add some entertainment and excitement to your runs. Conversations, laughter, encouragement and shared struggles make the journey more enjoyable. Celebrating win together like breaking a personal record or competing a race can be a shared memory that you can look back on and remember where and who you started this journey with.

An accountability partner can be the difference between giving up and pushing forward, between missing a goal and exceeding it. So, if you’re trying to become a stronger, more consistent runner, look for someone who will run the journey with you.
