Episode 4; How to Take Control in the Chaos.

Hello There!

Welcome back to The Learning Curve where we dare to try and learn to grow!

Today’s episode looks a little different as I dive deeper into the actionable steps you can take when life goes outside of your plans. It’s inevitable that life has twists and turns we can not expect.

No matter how much planning or precaution you take, sometimes s*** happens (just being real). However, it’s not always about what you go through but rather how you carry yourself through those circumstances that determine how or if you succeed in those times.

“When things don’t go your way remember, every challenge, every adversity contains within it the seed of opportunity and growth.”

Some practical steps I have taken throughout my life to help myself through the uncontrollable are to…

  1. Pause and breathe.

Yes I know many people hear this but to listen and take a moment to yourself is very beneficial. Not only does it help regulate your nervous system making your body feel better, but it also helps to distract you from the thoughts that can creep in when things go wrong.

  1. Acknowledge your feelings… THEY ARE VALID!

No matter what, if you are mad, sad, frustrated, annoyed or disappointed it is OK! Sometimes we can carry guilt or shame by what we feel in given situations, but they are real. You can let feelings be felt and pass without acting on them. With those feelings you want to make sure you are responding NOT reacting.

“We can hold regret for the way we react but when we respond, we are READY!

  1. Shift your perspective.

Take a look outside of yourself whether it’s writing it out or talking it out, doing small things can make a big difference in the long run.

  1. Control what you can.

If there is something you can do to help better control the situation or yourself do it. Don’t let the chaos drag you down further. Think positive and do the next right thing!

Through all of this, the most important thing is to be kind to yourself. This is your first time doing this thing we call life. You are going to flop, and make mistakes but understand that those crappy days are meant to make the good ones even better!

Love you all,
