This week’s flower of the week is the rose! Since most of you commented “rose” on my post asking what everyone’s favorite flower is, this will be the first feature in this series! Here is a little information on roses!
Roses in general symbolize love, hope, friendship, and new beginnings. Many people get the rose as a sign of love when it comes to their significant other. The different colors of roses happen to mean different things and symbolize different feelings.
Rose Color Meanings:
If you are getting roses for someone, try to keep these colors in mind to put a little more thought behind the gesture that they may not expect!
Red: Passion, love, and romance
White: Purity, innocence, and new beginnings
Pink: Admiration, gratitude, and gentleness
Yellow: Friendship, happiness, and joy
Orange: Enthusiasm, desire, and fascination
Care Tips:
Roses can be touchy when taking care of them so you want to pay these a lot of attention. In my opinion, roses have the shortest lifespan of cut flowers. I have noticed throughout the years that roses are good for about 3-5 days before they start getting soft and veiny. When you get a bouquet or vase of roses, you want to make sure that you cut the stems at an angle every couple days. You also want to make sure that you are changing the water and giving it fresh, clean water to help it maintain its freshness.
If you get rose petals for an occasion or from someone, be sure they aren’t being stepped on when they are on carpet or a rug. They can stain the material from being rubbed. Additionally, they can clog jacuzzi jets so be careful when using!
Fun Facts:
There are a few fun facts that can be found with roses. One that most people may not know is that rose petals are edible! I personally have never tried one but I have met people that have made them into desserts or even dog treats! Another is how old they are. Roses have been known for thousands of years and fossils of roses have been found to be 35 million years old! The ancient Romans also used roses for celebrations and perfume. They were a symbol of luxury and wealth for them. Crazy that we experience the same flower as they did thousands of years ago!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen orange roses! So cool!!
I love roses but have had them leave stains on a table runner. I wondered if that was common and you answered that!
