Tulips seem like a favorite for many people because of how beautiful they are while being a popular spring flower. Here is some information about tulips!
Since most flower shops only get tulips closer to spring time into the summer months, I love to enjoy the most out of them while I can. Tulips come in a variety of fun, bright colors that can be grown or enjoyed as a cut flower in vase arrangements. If you choose to grow them, they are one of the easiest flowers to grow. They come as a bulb to plant in the ground that most people plant in the fall to enjoy the following spring.
Care Tips:
- When choosing tulips, choose ones that are closed and tight. You will get the most life out of them this way.
- Cut the stems at an angle and put in cold, fresh water.
- Other flowers grow better with flower food added to the water, however, tulips don’t need any added. They produce their own flower food when they are cut and put in water. Cool right?
- Avoid putting them in bright sunlight. This can decrease the amount of enjoyment you get out of them.
- Cut and give fresh water every couple of days.
Some people like to add some things to the water to last longer. The ones I have had luck with are copper pennies and ice cubes. Other things can be sugar or even a few drops of bleach.
Fun Facts:
- There are over 100 species of tulips! Over the years, there have been more variations and colors that have emerged.
- Tulips come in almost every color! Unlike some other flowers, the tulip can be found in almost any color so chances are, you can find a tulip in your favorite color!
- Tulips can keep growing after being cut! If you have ever had a vase of tulips, maybe you have noticed that they seem to get longer. This is because they continue to grow by elongating their stems in search of nutrients.
- Tulip festivals are held around the world to celebrate the beauty of these spring flowers. Have any of you been to Pella, Iowa for their tulip festival? If you haven’t, I highly recommend! The whole city is decorated for this flower and the shops are named after tulips!
- Tulips are originally from Central Asia. Most people think they came from the Netherlands but they actually originate from the Tian Shan mountains of Central Asia. They were first recorded over 3,000 years ago!
I highly recommend getting some to enjoy this spring! They really add color to your home or space!

I’ve planted some in the Fall but I think I forget where they are and must hoe them out when I clean the flowerbeds because they never come up 🤣
