Throughout the years, I have noticed some common questions and misconceptions regarding fresh flowers and their care. In this post, I will be providing those questions and giving my thoughts! Comment any other questions you may have and I will address them when I can!
What are the best ways to keep flowers alive?
One of the best ways to keep flowers alive is to change the water regularly as well as cutting the stems. You don’t need to cut that much off of the stems, just around an inch or so. Additionally, be sure to cut the stems at an angle to help them drink. Most flowers should come with a pack of flower food with them that you can sprinkle in the water. This will help them last a little longer as well.
What flowers are bad for pets?
There are many beautiful, common flowers that are bad for pets that people may not know about. Some of the most common include lilies, tulips, peonies, carnations, and daffodils. You can read more about toxic flowers for pets from a past post here!
What are the easiest flowers to maintain?
The easiest flowers I have found to be the easiest to maintain are daisies, alstroemeria, and carnations. These require the least amount of work, in my opinion. The way you can set them up to last longer is by removing the bottom leaves. This will prevent them from molding. These flowers also happen to be the longest lasting flowers that I have noticed!
Can I put my flowers in my fridge to keep them fresh at home?
Absolutely! However, make sure you don’t have any fruits in your fridge at the same time! They release a gas that speeds up the wilting process of flowers. Putting your flowers in the fridge can help extend their life if you need them fresh the next day.
What flowers make the most aesthetic bouquet?
Everyone has different favorite flowers so I’m sure everyone has a different perception of what makes up an aesthetic bouquet. There are many flowers that people see as aesthetic that can include many types of wildflowers, baby’s breath, lilies, or tulips!
What flowers sell the best?
This depends on the holiday, but roses are very popular! I don’t think you can go wrong with roses, however, there are some people that hate this romantic flower. Tulips have been really popular in the spring and early summer as well.
What are the best flowers for spring?
My all time favorite spring flower is the tulip! I only really see these flowers in the spring so that’s why I associate tulips with spring. Other beautiful flowers for spring can include irises, peonies, poppies, hyacinth, and daffodils!
What is the busiest holiday for florists?
The busiest days are definitely Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day! We prepare for these holidays a month in advance and need lots of help to make it go smoothly! Be sure to be kind to your local florists on these days because they are insane days!
What kind of container or vase should I use for my flowers?
I would be sure to have a clean container or vase for your flowers as the first priority. Next, make sure the flowers you have fit comfortably in it and they aren’t tightly packed. If they are too close together, there is a larger chance of them molding.
If I want to preorder flowers, how far in advance should I order?
If you know what you want for flowers, I would call or stop in to your florist as soon as possible! The sooner they know about it, the more likely it will be that it will go smoothly. Every florist might be different, but it never hurts to ask them how early they would like you to order. If it is something small where you only need a few flowers, you might be able to get what you want the week of.
I hope these common questions about fresh flowers and answers helped you learn a little more about flowers and how to care for them, as well as preparing for certain days. Never be afraid to reach out if you have more questions!
