What is Style?

Fashion is the industry that defines the current trends which are constantly evolving and fleeting.  Style reflects an individual’s personality and individual taste.  Style is a personal expression that will always be timeless and unique to the wearer; it doesn’t have to make sense.  The art of fashion is that it gets to be interpreted in many different ways.  Take it from the fashion icon herself, Iris Apfel.

Consider Your Reality

I continue to struggle with defining what I consider my own personal style.  It is dependable on so many factors, such as my mood, the season, and my current routines.  Because style is a lasting expression of yourself, it is allowed to change alongside your growth as an individual.  There can also be a bridge between styles that you like versus what might make you feel the most confident or which is realistic for your lifestyle.  It is important to consider your current reality in terms of where you live, and what activities your days are filled with when searching for your personal style.  I will dive deeper into how to adapt to these constraints in future posts, but as you step into the research part of different styles, picture yourself in these different styles to see if it fits into your current reality.

Research

Like all important things, discovering your personal style will require you to conduct some research.  Your first important source will be Pinterest.  Create a board to present a clear vision as to what initially draws you in.  Pin any outfit or item that catch your eye, it doesn’t have to seem uniform right away.  Now, as you’ve built your collection, what patterns do you notice?  Ask yourself what about each outfit qualified it to join your board.  Did you like the color scheme?  Did it make you
