As a beginning photographer it can be hard to know what to charge or if you should charge in general. There are a lot of times when you may doubt your abilities to photograph, edit and give out photos. Just remember you are worth it, you deserve to make money, and your hard work does not go unnoticed. This article will help you determine how to price different types of photo experiences, whether it is a photo shoot or just editing!
Photo Packages

Here is some inspiration for beginning photographers. Keep in mind that I am taking and editing all photos, I am also in school with a minor in Interactive Digital Studies which is basically photography, videography, and social media. I decided to offer photo packages including my time, photos, and editing. For a Mini photo shoot I am offering 30 minutes of my time for 20 edited photos at 1 location, which I am charging $75. I also offer a regular photo shoot with 1 hour of my time, 45 photos, 1 location (+$20 for additional locations), and all photos will be edited, this package is $100. The last package I offer is my cap and gown package with 10 edited photos and the location must be on the campus of UNI! To me this seemed fair, especially when comparing my pricing to slightly more experienced photographers sometimes charging almost double. Make sure you are charging enough for the time and effort you will put into these people!
Editing Packages
If you are interested in also offering exclusively your editing services you might want to price that out in a different way. Keep in mind that editing videos will be more expensive than editing photos. Consider how much time it takes to edit, the price of your editing software, and the length of video or amount of photos. Maybe for 20 photos you can edit them for $40 when you break it down that is only 50 cents per photo you edit. In terms of video editing pricing I have no idea where to start but I would go by time you could charge $5 per min of footage, because video editing is much more involved.
Students Discounts
I love to offer student discounts! As a student myself it is more appealing to me when a place offers student discounts. Personally my student discounts are $50 for a Mini, $75 for a Regular and $30 for a Cap and Gown. These are just ideas of what you can do. Feel free to do giveaways or other promotions. You are also welcome and encouraged to price your photography differently.
