Graphic Design Trends of 2024

2024 has already seen a lot of advancements in technology and design, many of which include either finding ways to make life easier or just generally the simplification of design to create a bigger sense of memorability and encompass a wider audience or topic.

1. 3D Type and Bubble Text

This trend has really started to ramp up in the past many months. It is a way to make designs feel more joyful and playful, and is even combined with 3D animations as of late.

2. Color Clashing

While clashing colors is not necessarily brand-new to graphic design, the accessibility guidelines that must be followed are beginning to result in more vibrant contrasts. 2024 is surely likely to see more clashing and contrasting colors on our screens with bold and vibrant color palettes.

3. Curve Smoothing

This technique has been around for a while, however over the last year more designers have been smoothing out the rough edges and creating some friendlier-looking displays.

4. ’70s Nostalgia

With many technological advancements including AI, 2024 designs may bring us back to the golden days. Many of the ‘60s and ‘70s nostalgic design styles that are seen in present-day displays include faded color palettes, retro stripes, checkers, florals, and other funky patterns.

5. Vintage Minimalism

Throughout the past few years, minimalistic designs have arisen with a lot of branding and other design displays. 2024 is bringing about vintage color palettes paired with simplicity in design.

6. Anti-Design

While 2023 revived the goth aesthetic, 2024 is bringing about some darkness within design style as well. The anti-design trend introduces mixed fonts of different weights and sizes, overlapping text, altered spacing, and sideways composition. Festival, concert, and art gallery posters are more likely to feature this type of style.

7. Abstract Gradients and Color Transitions

While gradients are nothing new to the graphic design world, 2024 designs are expected to have more punchier uses of gradients to make bright and vibrant compositions that feel very modern.

8. Texture

Texture in art resonates with viewers on a deeper level, making viewers want to touch, taste, and feel the artwork. In 2024, we are more likely to see a lot of texture within graphic design compositions, and especially in typography.

9. Geometry

Geometry has become the more bold and modern appeal that more and more graphic designers are beginning to use. With straight-edge flat shapes and bright, popping colors, the graphic design world will be more interested in creating simplified forms that are eye-catching and satisfying to look at.

10. Illustration and Logo Mascots

The inclusion of mascots is a creative way to make your brand or design feel more human. This big rise in more illustrative characters in logos and illustrations may be a turn for tech, food, and beverage industries.

As we navigate these exciting developments, it’s essential for designers to remain adaptable, harnessing technology to enhance their creative visions. Whether through bold textures, geometric shapes, or illustrative mascots, 2024 promises a dynamic landscape that encourages exploration and expression. By staying attuned to these trends, designers can create work that not only captures attention but also resonates deeply with diverse audiences. Embrace the change—this year is set to be a thrilling journey through the world of graphic design!
