Why Duolingo has Mastered Social Media

If a brand is ever wanting to dominate social media platforms, they should learn from the experts behind Duolingo. Duolingo is an app/website that teaches users over 40 plus languages and has managed to gain over 16.4 million followers on TikTok. They were able to create a brand personality by posting consistent funny content with all of their mascots.

What is a Brand Personality

A brand personality is a set of human characteristics a company wants their brand to be associated with by their audience. Duolingo’s established personalities are to be inspiring, inclusive, have can-do spirit, to be curious, and quirky. They use these personalities to make content to inspire users to learn other languages in a funny way.

Why Should Companies Have a Great Brand Personality?

Duolingo recently pulled a big stunt where their mascot, Duo the owl, has been killed. As crazy as this sound their campaign is actually working. Since they have an excellent social media presence, the news of the owl’s “death” spread everywhere. Other companies, people, news outlets, and even celebrities are joining in the conversation. Duolingo did not just join the conversation and followed what everyone else was doing, but they created the conversation.

Duolingo: The PR Expert

Creating a brand personality is a big part of public relations or PR. By having a good brand personality, Duolingo is able to engage, create a relationship, and build a positive reputation with their audience. Other companies like Wendy’s also have a great presence like on X (formally known as Twitter), but for right now Duolingo takes the crown.

Another great example how Duolingo engages with their audience after “killing off” their mascot.
