Embracing your Season of Waiting

Pick it Up:

In Genesis 16 (I highly recommend that you read this chapter yourself because this is just a rough summary), Abram and Sarai really want to have a baby and the Lord promises them that one day He will bless them with one. They get REAL tired of waiting because they’re getting old (like 99 years) and they start to believe that God isn’t going to come through. So they decide to take matters into their own hands and Abram sleeps with their servant, Hagar, and she gets pregnant.

However, this baby doesn’t end up bringing the joy that they thought having a baby would. The key reason is because they tried to take matters in their own hands. This baby wasn’t the best that the Lord had for them. The Lord still redeemed and used this baby for good, but this baby wasn’t everything that God had in store for Abram and Sarai.

God really spoke to me during this passage recently. He showed me that being patient and waiting on His timing is far better than taking matters into my own hands. Being obedient and waiting will be far better than anything I could try and make happen on my own.

This mindset is really helpful but even with this, it’s still hard to wait. Personally, I want to be a wife and mom in a few years so I’d love to have a boyfriend. I also really want to step into my full time career so I wish I was done with college. There are so many things that we have to wait for but it’s worth it. So how do you wait well?

Preach:

  • Fast and Pray. During this time, seek the Lord on clarity for what He wants for you in this season.
    • Also just pray regularly. Every time you start to get impatient in your season of waiting, pray and ask the Lord to make Him your one true desire.
  • Be in Christian community with people who are in similar seasons of waiting.
    • You can encourage one another, get advice, and relate
    • Also for my single people, you should have friends who are single so you guys can hang out when you’re feeling alone! (this is mega helpful)
  • Keep your heart in check. You don’t want whatever you’re waiting on to become an idol
    • Always keep the Lord as #1
