Living out the Great Commission
Pick it Up:
Let’s be real: living out the Great Commission on your college campus isn’t always easy. It sounds simple—”go and make disciples”—but actually doing it in the middle of your everyday college life can feel incredibly hard. There’s the fear of rejection, of not knowing what to say, or of being labeled “that Christian.” There’s the stubbornness we sometimes don’t even notice—those moments when we know what God’s prompting us to do, but we still hesitate. And then there’s the busyness—assignments, classes, work, social life. It’s easy to push off spiritual conversations or intentional time with others for “later.”
But if that’s where you’re at—you’re not alone. So many of us feel that tension between wanting to be obedient and just trying to survive college life. And the enemy loves to use fear and distraction to keep us quiet. But the good news? God is patient, and He’s working even when you feel like you’re falling short. The invitation isn’t to be perfect, but to be faithful—one small, bold step at a time.
& Preach:
A lot of us wrestle with the fear of stepping out. Sometimes, it feels easier to just pray silently as we walk by someone than to actually strike up a conversation. And while that might feel like a small step, it’s still a step of obedience. The Lord can use even whispered prayers to move mountains.
Building intentional friendships with people who don’t know Jesus is another powerful way to live out the Great Commission. Not as a “project,” but because you genuinely care. Love people well, show up for them, and don’t be afraid to bring your faith into the conversation naturally. It’s not unloving to want people to know Jesus—it’s the most loving thing you can do.
And don’t forget: the Great Commission isn’t just about evangelism—it’s about making disciples. That means walking with people long after they say “yes” to Jesus.
- Lead a small group.
- Meet up for coffee and talk through Scripture.
- Pray together.
- Confess.
- Encourage.
- Hold each other accountable.
- That’s discipleship.
You don’t have to be perfect to start. The goal isn’t fearlessness—it’s obedience, one step at a time. Trust that God is breaking up the fear and stubbornness in you, and that He’ll use even your smallest yes.
Keep planting seeds. Keep watering others. Keep going. Try taking a walk across campus today and asking God to show you who He wants you to see. Start there.
