Here are my top 10 running essentials to survive any run!
1. Quality Running Shoes
The first essential out of my top 10 is running shoes. To me, running shoes are the most crucial part of having a successful running career. Investing in the right shoes can prevent injuries, provide arch support, and improve performance over long-distances. Personally, I have found Hoka to be the best brand to support the heavy mileage I attain throughout the year. I love the Hoka Bondi 8 for road running and the Hoka Stinson 7 for gravel training!
2. Apple Watch
I used to be against wearing a watch during my runs and would rely solely on the Apple Fitness app on my phone. However, after receiving an Apple Watch as a gift, it has quickly become a resourceful tool. Features like pace tracking, mile checkpoints, heart rate monitoring, and goal setting has kept me accountable and safe. With a variety of data from each run, I can easily track my progress and predict my future!
3. Running Belt
The Lululemon Fast and Free Running Belt has been a game-changer for carrying essentials during my runs. For instance, I carry my phone, keys, and nutrition in the large component of the belt. I can focus on my form while staying hands-free and not worried about losing my necessities.
4. Nutrition
It is crucial to be fueling your body before, during, and after a run. Your body is using so much energy and needs to be replenished to function correctly. In my opinion, Honey Stinger Energy Waffles (in the honey flavor) are the best tasting and fast-acting running snack. Additionally, I love drinking the strawberry lemonade Liquid I.V. for some quick electrolytes. Having a good balance of meals and snacks can prevent unhealthy habits!
5. Hydration Vest
Need something bigger than a running belt? A hydration vest is perfect for carrying water, snacks, and essentials with plenty of room to spare. They are lightweight and prefect for long runs and hot days, keeping you hydrated and running at your best. With how much I have used my running vest in the past year it was a no-brainer to include in my top 10!
6. Megababe’s Anti-Friction Stick
Get rid of chafing with Megababe’s Anti-Friction Stick! This must-have glides on the skin for easy application, is sweat-resistant, and prevents irritation on long runs. A small but mighty tool to keep you running even longer!
7. Biofreeze
Throughout my cross-country career to now Biofreeze has helped ease the pain of sore muscles. The gel formula provides many benefits such as a fast-acting cooling effect, drying rapidly, and versatile application to numerous problem areas! A little goes a long way as it is long-lasting.
8. Cute outfits
If you are putting in the work, you might as look good doing it! My top running gear brands are Lululemon, Nike, and Target. The characteristics I look for in each brand is quality, the assortment of colors, and breathability of each piece. The right outfit gives me the confidence and comfort to complete each run.
9. Recovery Gear
Recovery gear is just as important as the running gear itself. For example, I participate in post-run recovery efforts by using massage guns, foam rollers, and resistance bands. I have found it is important to utilize active recovery methods to prevent cramping and reduce strained muscles.
10. Entertainment
The last component of my top 10 is having entertainment. The right entertainment can motivate you to get out of the door and make the miles fly by. Whether it is having a conversation with a running buddy, listening to a pump-up playlist, or being engaged with a podcast, entertainment can make your runs more enjoyable. Secretly, I try to avoid music and just enjoy chatting with my running partners!
