My Running Journey: From First Race to Where I Am Now

Running journey: Now

My running journey began with my best friend Jules. Jules pressured me into running cross country with her sophomore year of high school (she was fast). At first, I hated running. I would dread going to practice, beg for easier workouts, and had a bad mindset. However, with an outstanding coach, a supportive team, encouraging parents, and most importantly Jules, I quickly realized how much running had to offer. My first 5k race was anything but perfect. The course featured hills and the beating September sun. However, I did not give up. The sport taught me important lessons of resilience, perseverance, and discipline. Not only did I get to run for myself, but I also got to run for a team who believed in me. All of us pushed each other to be the best version of ourselves, the competitive atmosphere was always unforgettable. So unforgettable, I continued to run cross country for the rest of my high school career! Without Jules, I would not be where I am today.
Now, as a junior in college, running is still my main hobby. It was not a phase! I just completed my first half-marathon last October and that was exhilarating. Currently, I am training for my second in May, with a third coming towards the end of the year! Running provides me the mental clarity I need to feel my best. Finally, my vision for the future of the sport is one that celebrates all abilities, and encourages inclusivity for athletes of all levels.
My goal is to provide motivation and resources to inspire YOU to try long-distance running. Thank you for being here:)
