What an exciting week it has been! My entire week was filled with beneficial leadership activities, where I learned so much about various individuals and their thoughts on leadership topics.
Women in Business

My week began by attending a Women in Business meeting on Monday night with a large group of intelligent women from the University of Northern Iowa. We engaged in an in-depth conversation regarding the root of leadership, which is none other than the topic of how to present yourself! We discussed professional attire and the difference between casual, business casual, and business professional clothing. It is important to determine the appropriateness of one’s attire in relation to the business event they are attending. A first impression can determine everything. Therefore, a common phrase that I have heard throughout my life and choose to live by is to “dress one level above what you think would be acceptable to wear.” This is especially relevant when deciding what to wear to an interview. You want to ensure that you dress to impress!
Career Fair

The next event that took place during my busy, professional week, was the career fair on Tuesday. I had the opportunity to connect with many business organizations. I held conversations relevant to my successes and what I look to find in my future. Additionally, I brought my resume to leave with potential business prospects, and am looking forward to further communication with them in the upcoming future.
The career fair is similar to any event in life, the results are determined by what you make out of it. I encourage young professional leaders to dedicate time preparing for events such as this. For instance, one might receive help critiquing their resumes, practice holding proficient conversations, perfect their elevator pitch, and more.
University of Northern Iowa’s Society for Human Resource Management Organization

On Tuesday, after the career fair took place, the UNI-SHRM executive team got together. We reviewed the agenda I prepared for the night. We discussed upcoming events and sorted out the details, determined each of our individual goals for the semester, reviewed data, and reviewed each of our tasks needing completion within the week.
Our executive board consists of nine members. I am the President, and work to manage the overall operations of UNI-SHRM. I ensure that all of my team members have the proper resources and assistance to achieve success in their roles. We meet bi-weekly on Tuesdays, with our member meetings on the opposite Tuesdays. I am beyond excited to see where we can take things this year!
Iowa SHRM State Conference 2024

In conclusion of my week, I participated in one of the most exhilarating conferences I have ever been to. I listened to some of the best speakers, and networked with so many professionals. This opportunity allowed me to receive insight regarding the topic of leadership. I cannot wait to dive into the specifics with each of you in my upcoming blog post. I will share beneficial information, quotes, and statistics that I gathered at the conference from a couple of the speakers.
Please check back soon to read the in-depth insight.
