As discussed in part one, I had the opportunity to travel to the 2024 Women Lead Change Conference. This event was free of cost with the scholarship that I received on behalf of the organization putting on this event. The day was organized with numerous presenters who shared valuable learning points. I connected with other attendees and listened to their leadership journeys. As a highlighting point of view from the conference, remember to speak up for yourself, invest in yourself, and believe in yourself – without these characteristics and beliefs, it will be hard to continue pushing up the ladder to achieve your goals.
Nia Vardalos

Nia Vardalos, a Canadian actress and screenwriter – who many of you may know as the star and writer of the romantic comedy film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, discussed the matter of investing in oneself. Vardalos preached that nobody else is going to do it for us, which is exactly why we need to take that initiative to become women who lead change. In other words, we need to lead ourselves towards changes in our lives that will create a long-term benefit.
Furthermore, Vardalos expressed at the 2024 Women Lead Change Conference, “We have to be enough for ourselves.” In order to become the best versions of ourselves and reach our goals, we must “put the phone down” and drive towards our intended desires. If the right items are being prioritized, there is so much that can be done. It is nobody’s responsibility to motive you. Sometimes individuals become so wrapped up in the fear of completing work alone, that they fail to even start. As I hear it preached over and over again, failing to start is the biggest setback.
Prior to Vardalos joining the stage, there was a discussion on what it takes to build oneself. The answers provided were the three C’s: courage, commitment, and connections. Specifically targeting courage, the woman on the stage stated, “We need to share our whispers.” Whispers are powerful, whether they are only whispered to ourselves or only to a select few. The woman sharing this information provided the example of how she whispered, “Do you think one day I could become a DIRECTOR of Marketing?” Sharing this whisper opened the door to numerous opportunities for her. This goes to show that nobody can read anyone’s mind. We must be courageous enough to communicate, make connections, and speak our minds. Then, we need to commit to doing whatever it takes to be the best and reach our desired end goal.
Consequently, the discussion of whispers and Vardalos’ topic of investing in oneself seemingly correlate well. With whispers and investing in yourself, both come with major responsibility. Be loud… Be heard… Express yourself…
