The Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
These first four books of the new testament are called The Gospels. They clearly lay out the good news, the life of Jesus. Each of these books are written by the disciple that the name of the book is titled. Any of these four books are a great place to start when Bible reading. They very simply lay out the Gospel and Jesus’ life on Earth.
Genesis and Exodus
The beginning of the Bible! The first chapters of Genesis cover the creation of the world and how sin entered it. After the first ten chapters or so, Genesis can be a little confusing. Exodus is the second book of the Bible. It is an account of God’s faithfulness in leading the Israelites out of Egypt.
Romans and Ephesians
There are a lot of books in the Bible and a lot of knowledge contextually that is needed to understand the application of what is being said. However, Romans and Ephesians are two books in the new testament that you may not need a lot of historical context to understand and apply. Romans discusses the basics of sin and christian life. It also clearly outlines the Gospel, salvation, and growth in Christ. Ephesians is very similar as it speaks about salvation and life with Christ but also talks about spiritual warfare and the Church
James and Proverbs
Once you have a foundation of the Gospel and Jesus, then it is easier to understand books that talk about Christian lifestyle, and you can apply it to your life effectively. James is a very straightforward book to read and it jam packed full of content. Proverbs is very readily applicable to our lives and there is also 31 chapters so you can read one every day.
