Minecraft Pros:
A Minecraft movie has become the biggest success of the year, in America. People are going to the theaters all the time to catch a simple glimpse of this movie. It has led to major memes on social media to help boost its popularity in almost everyway.
The movie has also showed that it really cares for the video game, itself. There is a clear understanding that the directors watched, or played, the iconic video game prior to filming. This is better than the Halo T.V. show that took the complete opposite approach. This helped to make the experience better for the viewers
Lastly, Jack Black was very fun to watch, and clearly loved being Steve. It was apparant to everyone he had a true love for the role, and it was fun to be able to turn your brain off to enjoy the movie. The movie was an enjoyable and fast watch that didn’t take itself serious at all. However, that is about the end of the positives from this movie.
Cons
To start, the movie doesn’t look that great from a CGI perspective. It is very apparent that there is a green screen behind the actors the whole time in the Minecraft world. This takes away from the moments, and sometimes ruins the vibe of the viewers. There are other scenes that look completely fake, even for movie standards, and that ruined the movie and the scenes they were noticeable in.
To continue, the narrative of the movie is boring. The characters besides Steve and Garbage Man are completely forgettable. They don’t add any addition to the fun of the movie, and are the worst part of the movie. The actors don’t convey good emotion, they don’t seem to be trying, and it doesn’t give the viewer a reason to care about the characters. This is crucial, because they are the main story of the movie, but aren’t intresting.
Lastly, the movie doesn’t have a compelling villian. It is known that Minecraft doesn’t have a main narrative, but the route they went wasn’t very compelling. They made an evil piglet storyline with villians that are just generic. There isn’t much added to the villians, besides being a driving force for the main characters to team up. This just isn’t a good reason to have a villian, and didn’t have any events that caused the main characters to be closer together. In the end, they just decide to all leave together, and make a fighting game. It was a lackluster ending to a crazy movie, and just wasn’t worth the watch, other than to see the reactions from people in the theaters.
