They say everything is bigger in Texas, but MrBeast does everything even larger yet in his home state of North Carolina. MrBeast just appeared on Colin and Samir’s YouTube channel again in another podcast episode in what is likely an annual occurrence. MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson) even mentioned coming back on the show the day after his gameshow releases to spill all the beans about the logistics and behind-the-scenes of a reportedly $100 million contract, according to multiple sources such as the Washington Post.
MrBeast has created a massive empire, including a non-profit channel, a gaming channel, a reaction channel, and a candy bar company which I wrote about here. He has flirted with traditional media companies since at least 2021, where they were telling him back then that they didn’t think he could pull it off.
Well, now MrBeast has changed that, 2 and a half years later, and at almost 250 million subscribers on YouTube. It’s safe to say he figured out how to correctly monetize and grow a channel, which is no easy task, but I explain the traditional process that most content creators on YouTube follow here.
“If there’s just no control of every single frame that’s going out of the show, then I’m not doing it.” – MrBeast (Link)
Those are the words from Jimmy himself, which sums up a large portion of the podcast. MrBeast even joked about how not every company would let him have full control, so he immediately ignored them. He listed full creative control as the most important of three options presented by Colin: money, control, and ownership of the content itself. Money was the last chosen option, in part because of how hard his mind is set. He would only take the deal if he had full creative control and ownership of the production, which he confirmed he is handling himself. The last thing he wanted was another executive or frontrunner telling him how it should be done and therefore denying the project because Jimmy couldn’t get his way.
“…if this flops then YouTubers aren’t capable of making it on streaming services” – Donaldson fears
For consistent fans of MrBeast’s monetization scheme and overall scale as a creator, money not being important to him shouldn’t be a surprise. He is known for repeatedly saying that every cent he earns goes back into the production of content. Although that can be hard to believe, it also gets more obvious the longer MrBeast keeps at it. He estimated that an average main channel video has a production spend of $2.1 million and a total average cost of $3.5 million per video. His video ideas keep getting larger, and budgets even larger. He mentions no plans of slowing down anytime soon, but I can’t help but wonder about how his bottom-up approach to business, like PRIME with Logan Paul and KSI.
The new MrBeast gameshow is titled “Beast Games”. The winning contestant will earn more than any previous game show winner in history at $5 million. The sets will be larger than ever, and MrBeast even mentioned building a new city. Although a joke, wouldn’t be too surprising if he had enough time, given its expected 2024 release. The show is expected to come out sometime later this year, however, Jimmy mentioned delaying that without a problem if necessary. His main focus continually mentioned in the podcast that it will be the largest number of contestants ever featured in a gameshow, and for the most prize pool, which both seem to be true.
Prelude to be posted to YouTube
There will be a prelude or “episode 0.5” posted to his YouTube channel for fans to see what it’s about. However, MrBeast made it clear that he will still be uploading more on his main channel this year than previously in 2023, while also hosting the gameshow. There should be no detriment to his schedule as he stated, while embracing the grind it will become. The show should feature around 6 hours of content with 10 episodes in total. Everything will be bigger and more grand than what can be imagined, but details are slim until the first release.
