Layovers for regular passengers can be quite annoying, but it seems like it might be a lot easier for flight attendants.
The flight attendants I interviewed said they never have to pay for their own hotel rooms, and usually they are only there for a night, and they pick up and go to the next. Airlines have contracts with the hotels they use, so it is all ready and paid for when the flight crew arrives. Airlines also provide transportation to the hotel where they are staying. If it is a longer layover, they are required to pay for their own meals, so a lot of flight attendants will meal prep so they aren’t spending a bunch of money. Most hotel restaurants will have a discount for flight crew, which is nice, but prices can still add up in all the different places they go.
There are some cases where you will have several layovers on a trip. Aly told me that some layovers will be hot and others could be freezing cold, You have to be able to pack for it all. She often posts “what I pack for a trip” videos on TikTok and shows what she brings for a longer trip. There are also some cases where they don’t get a layover, this is called a turn where you go one place and then come back the same day.
