So you want a group of fans huh?

Yeah that is pretty normal. Honestly, when I first started out, I thought it would be a one and done thing.

But then next month, I went back to the same place to do it again. Why? Because the first time I went their, a group of my friends came to support me. So I asked them a week before if I should do it again, and they said, “Yeah!”

And they are my friends, so I don’t want to let them down. But when the open mic came around, none of my friends were there.

So if none of your friends came, did you leave?

Surprisingly no. I think I was going to, but then one of the comedians I never met before came and talked to me.

He was saying there was this new kid, a young kid, that absolutely killed it on their first time around. The guy came up to me, because the stand-in host pointed me out as “the new guy”.

I ended up talking a bit to this comedian and eventually signed up because I had nothing better to do. Plus they wanted to see me do it again.

(If you want, my YouTube channel has my 2nd time ever doing comedy on it).

After doing my set, the same comedian pulled me aside and started giving me feedback.

As a fresh comedian, the tips he was giving me blew my mind. So I continued to keep going to this open mics, soley because of this feedback.

But there is only so much you can learn.

So what happens after you get the same 7 tips over and over again?

You keep trying new material and that is wearing you out?

You get a group of people to come to the shows to impress them. Obviously, don’t make your first date watch you do stand-up. That’s pretty cringe.

I was trying to keep this comedy thing a secret from my family, mainly because I thought they wouldn’t support it. Then somehow, my dad caught wind of it, asked me about it, and then the next time I went up, my family was watching.

There was one time, my aunt from across the state, came and had dinner with me, so she could come to the show.

Not everyone will have some sort of family to support them though.

If you want to grow a group of fans, start telling your friends about it.

My group of friends were my first fans. Even if they didn’t show up, they were always texting me about it.
Like every current big influencer, they got their by their friends. Many streamers and content creators only had their friends watching their stuff for about 3 years. And then eventually, those 5 views snowball into 17. And 17 becomes 58, then 111, then it keep growing and growing.

If you want to start a following, you need to share you news by word-of-mouth with friends and family. They’ll find out eventually anyways, so just rip the band-aid off.

And if you want to start something on the internet, then find a free software, and start learning how to edit.

I love doing my monthly stand-up, because now I get to grow my skills as a video editor and a graphic designer.

But I’ll say it again before I sign off.

If you want a group of fans, start with your friends and family becoming your fans.
