Budget Travel: The Tips and Essentials

We’ve all been there. Wanting to take a trip but don’t know if its possible. Here are the budget travel tips and essentials to help you book that trip!

the flights

choose longer layovers-check out my post here about how to survive them. they make flights much cheaper if you are willing to be bored in Exchange for $.

search kayak, google flights, skyscanner etc to find the cheapest flights. Buy your flights early, about 2-3 months in advance, if you wait too long the prices may sky rocket.

search multiple different airports near each other and compare. sometimes one airport may be much cheaper than another one not too far away. if it is a possibility check all airports within a 100 mile radius.

start building up points or miles. Get a credit card and start Building travel credit with miles and points. eventually your flights are free- girl math.

the trip

Don’t always pay for touristy things try and find free excursions. Sometimes the money grabs for Tourists are not nearly as fun as the free side quests. Ask locals what they would recommend to do you may find hidden spots.

stay in hostels. yes some of them can be sketch, but some of them could be life-long friendships waiting to happen. make your days so packed with fun you only go there to sleep and it is bearable.

use public transport if possible or walk! you can see so much if you bike or walk to your destinations. you also avoid costs of uber/ renting a car.

extras

if you are looking to travel long term check out worldpackers or consider other work. remote work is another option to cover living costs.

ask a traveling group for advice. there are so many facebook groups or reddit pages filled with advice from people who constantly travel. check them out for real-time advice.

don’t travel during peak seasons, avoid the crowd. try and research when the best, but still cheapest, time to go to your destination. you don’t want to go during hurricane season, but also not dead week when everyone travels.

Thanks for reading all of the necessary budget travel tips and essentials to booking that next trip stress free.
