A new dance teachers guide to interview success!
After many successful and fun years as a dancer you may decide to start teaching! You’re excited but have lots of questions about how to interview for this type of work… How do I translate my success as a dancer into success as a teacher? What should I bring to an interview? What does a dance related resume look like?
Luckily I have been through the entire process and can provide you a short guide on how to nail your interview!
What to Bring
- Your Resume (more to come later in the article)
- Videos of your dancing or possibly choreography work you have done
What to Wear
- This can vary depending on your knowledge of the studio but it is always best practice to dress nicely (maybe a business casual) to show you really care about the position!
Confidence
- You are a confident dancer so don’t shy away from a little bit of “bragging” – don’t shy away from sharing your accolades!
- Even if you don’t have teaching experience yet you do have years and years of education in dance and this is extremely valuable!
Dance Resume
- Include
- Any and all accolades
- All styles you have trained in
- All places/people you have trained with
- Any special skills you possess (ex. tumbling/acrobatics)
Good luck as you continue your dance career! Comment below any questions or important tips I missed!
