Behind the Pen: Meet the Team

Welcome, readers! I’m Lauren Roby, and I am delighted to be writing to you! I am from a small town in Southern Iowa, and recently began my fourth year at the University of Northern Iowa. Where I plan on graduating this spring with a Strategic Public Relations degree and a minor in Marketing. Initially I started my journey at UNI to pursue a career in Sales and shortly realized in my first semester that was not my path. Frantically I searched for a new path scared that I would never find anything I truly wanted to pursue. That is until an advisor had mentioned the Public Relations major to me. I had a very minimal idea of what Public Relations was but I was intrigued to learn more. I dove into the internet and looked at all the possibilities there were before my eyes. I began to picture my future self enjoying a long career in this field and had a wave of clarity about my choice moving forward. 

Hello everyone! I’m Rylie Todd and I am excited to share my knowledge with all of you. I am currently in my senior year at the University of Northern Iowa. I am from a town located in the southeastern part of Iowa and I decided to continue my education here at UNI and pursue my “lifelong goal” of becoming a nurse. I use “lifelong goal” in quotes because since I was little that was my dream and my mother was also a nurse so I thought it was fate. However, after my very first semester I realized my lifelong goal was not what I was called to do. Shortly after that realization I switched my major to Strategic Public Relations with minors in Marketing and Journalism and never have been happier and will graduate May 2025. When I switched over to Public Relations I had no idea what I was getting myself into, I had very little knowledge of the major and the jobs that it would lead me to. Ultimately, I am glad that I decided to switch my major and see where it takes me!
