March Madness 2025 Logos: Who has the Best One?

This is a ranking of every single team’s logo that was in the men’s and women’s Sweet Sixteen, this totaled 28 different teams and 29 different logos. Rather than rank all these logos on a completely subjective scale, we decided to take the most objective route while incorporating some subjective measures.

The Logo’s Framework

From most subjective to least subjective, this is every factor that will contribute to a logo’s position on this list. All logos and the last two factors are sourced from Sports Logos.net.

Logos’ Personal Rating (LPR)

A simple rating from 1-10 based on our general opinion of the logo.

Logos’ Bonus Points (LBP)

A system where a logo can win points based on unique factors like symmetry or detail. Multiple points can be gained, one point is granted for each factor, and zero points is possible. Some factors are subjective and up to the interpretation of the individual.

Logos’ Rating (LR)

A public rating system is provided for each logo, where anyone can give a rating of 1-10, only allowing whole number votes. While still very subjective, the average it provides can still be used objectively.

Logos’ Longevity (LL)

A simple formula that takes the current year and subtracts the year the logo was marked as the primary logo. The bigger the number, the better.

Important Notes

  • This ranking is exclusively of the college’s primary logo based on what Sports Logos.net has in its database. (Notes will be added to the logos where this isn’t the case.)
  • A logo rating was averaged if it was taken from multiple different instances of a logo. Ex: Michigan has three separate logos from three separate time frames, all with various minor changes and logo ratings.
  • If a logo was hardly changed over time, it was given a start year of the very first instance of the logo. As mentioned above, the rating was changed to the average rating from every instance of the logo. A color change, border addition, shift of an asset, or any similarly insignificant change isn’t considered enough to break the longevity of the logo.
  • The list was ordered based on all factors with Logos’ Rating, Logos’ Bonus Points, Logos’ Longevity, and Logos’ Personal Rating in descending order of influence.
  • The average and range of every factor are:
    Logos’ Rating: 5.5 | 5.0-5.8
    Logos’ Longevity: 28.59 | 2-124
    Logos’ Personal Rating: 6.12 | 3-9.3
    Logos’ Bonus Points: 0.66 | 0-2

29th. Purdue

LR 5 | LL 13 | LPR 4 | LBP 0

Lost an extreme amount of LPR due to a major downgrade from its previous logo.

28th. LSU

LR 5.2 | LL 11 | LPR 4.8 | LBP 0

27th. UConn

LR 5.2 | LL 12 | LPR 7.8 | LBP 2

This logo is symmetrical and detailed, giving it two bonus points. It’s a husky, so it wins over our hearts pretty much immediately. The general population seems to disagree, giving it 3rd to last place.

26th. TCU

LR 5.23 | LL 28 | LPR 6.4 | LBP 1

This is the first team on our list that is getting a point by being ‘clean’. The outline provides a nice, ‘clean’ look to this logo, earning TCU one bonus point.

25th. Tennessee (Women’s)

LR 5.3 | LL 49 | LPR 6.2 | LBP 0

Tennessee is one of three colleges that appear in both the men’s and women’s March Madness Sweet Sixteen. Tennessee is the only college that has an alternate logo for women’s athletics. While not the primary logo of Tennessee, it is the primary logo for Tennessee Women’s Athletics.

24th. Alabama

LR 5.4 | LL 7 | LPR 5.1 | LBP 0

23rd. Kentucky

LR 5.4 | LL 9 | LPR 5.8 | LBP 0

Lost a small amount of LPR for basically copying a later-mentioned logo, Houston.

22nd. USC

LR 5.4 | LL 9 | LPR 5.5 | LBP 1

USC is the only logo in this entire list, where the current logo skipped a few years. This led to a reduction in LL. Was given a bonus point as compensation.

21st. Michigan

LR 5.43 | LL 124 | LPR 4.5 | LBP 1

Michigan leads the longevity category substantially. Having only three minor color changes over the 124 years. Received a bonus point for logo symmetry.

20th. South Carolina

LR 5.45 | LL 50 | LPR 9.3 | LBP 1

Our personal favorite out of every logo. Received one bonus point for logo detail.

19th. UCLA

LR 5.5 | LL 8 | LPR 5.2 | LBP 0

18th. Oklahoma

LR 5.5 | LL 25 | LPR 4.9 | LBP 0

17th. Ole Miss

LR 5.5 | LL 5 | LPR 8 | LBP 1

Another one of our favorites. Great styling, interesting stack of words. Received one bonus point for being ‘clean’.

16th. Maryland

LR 5.5 | LL 13 | LPR 3 | LBP 1

Our least favorite logo, really dislike the flag underline. Received a bonus point for logo symmetry (nearly).

15th. Arizona

LR 5.55 | LL 36 | LPR 7 | LBP 1
Received one bonus point for logo symmetry.

14th. Tennessee (Men’s)

LR 5.55 | LL 28 | LPR 5 | LBP 1

The second occurrence of Tennessee. This time, performing marginally better than the women’s logo. Received one bonus point for logo symmetry.

13th. Kansas St.

LR 5.6 | LL 36 | LPR 8 | LBP 0

Another one of our favorite logos.

12th. Notre Dame

LR 5.6 | LL 39 | LPR 5.9 | LBP 0

11th. Duke

LR 5.6 | LL 54 | LPR 5.8 | LBP 0

10th. Florida

LR 5.6 | LL 14 | LPR 6.2 | LBP 1

Received a bonus point for logo detail.

9th. North Carolina

LR 5.6 | LL 21 | LPR 6.9 | LBP 1

Logo received a bonus point for being ‘clean’. Again, outlines provide this ‘clean’ look.

8th. Auburn

LR 5.6 | LL 59 | LPR 6.8 | LBP 1

Received a bonus point for logo symmetry.

7th. Texas Tech

LR 5.6 | LL 18 | LPR 7.1 | LBP 2

Received two bonus points for logo detail and symmetry (nearly). Detail point given because of the 3d texture and ‘custom shading’. Symmetry point given by ignoring the slight differences in color on either side of the logo.

6th. BYU

LR 5.65 | LL 15 | LPR 4.9 | LBP 0

We have no idea why this logo is so highly regarded. Somewhat original with the background, but still extremely basic.

5th. Texas

LR 5.67 | LL 64 | LPR 5.3 | LBP 1

Received one bonus point for logo symmetry. Another basic logo that seems highly regarded.

4th. Michigan St.

LR 5.7 | LL 48 | LPR 6.5 | LBP 0

While this logo is quite basic, the characteristics and different pieces of the Spartan add more character to the logo.

3rd. Houston

LR 5.7 | LL 8 | LPR 6.1 | LBP 1

The champion of all the ‘interlocked letter’ colleges. The double outline gives this logo it’s bonus points in ‘clean’.

2nd. Arkansas

LR 5.75 | LL 24 | LPR 9 | LBP 1

Our second favorite logo and the 2nd place logo. Extreme logo detail gives Arkansas one bonus point.

1st. NC State

LR 5.8 | LL 2 | LPR 6.6| LBP 1

The winner of our logo rankings! With the highest LR and lowest LL in the entire bracket, and an average LPR. This logo gets one bonus for logo detail.
