NBA MVP Overview

Season overview

It is clear that this NBA season was one of the most crazy stat wise in quite a while. The MVP race is topped off with 3 great players that have been putting up really good numbers since the season started. This will without a doubt be one of the most interesting NBA MVP races and has definitely led this season to live up to the hype.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis has been incredibly overlook this entire season, but strictly because of the people that are ahead of him in the MVP race. If it was any other normal year he would possibly have a anonymous vote. He averaged a 30 point double double this season with 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists while also shooting 60% from the field. He is having a better year this year than when he won MVP. The bucks ended the season on an 8 game win streak and Giannis helped lead them to the 5 spot in the east even after a rough start. Defensilvy Giannis has been playing well there to averaging just around 1.2 blocks per game. I think it is one of the best years for a player so far, but will also be very overlooked because of the success of the other 2.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

SGA is having a season of the ages. He is putting up Jordan number and is leading the best team in the western conference to almost 70 wins. They are arguable the best team in the league and with their star player leading the NBA MVP race, that helps a lot. SGA is averaging almost 33 points per game with 6 assists per game. He is the front runner for the MVP award and given his teams stats it is understandable. He scored 20 points in 70 consecutive games this year. A feat that has not been done since the 1960s. His ability to create for himself and score makes him the leading candidate in the NBA MVP race.

Nikola Jokic

Most of time you would expect someone that is averaging Jordan numbers to win the MVP. However Jokic is the first center ever to average a near 30 point triple double. he is averaging 29.7 points 12.7 rebounds and 10.6 assists. Also 1.6 steals per game. The way he plays is so much different than other center but his team works so well around him as-well. He has had some incredible stat lines this year, some of which you would never expect someone like him to have. The question is, if SGA wins is voter fatique a real thing. Many people may think Jokic should have 5 in a row and his stats my prove that. It will without a doubt put him in the conversation for the greats if he can get 4 MVP’s.
